On 14 December, the Improvised Music and Dance Laboratory (IMDL) concludes its 2025 season with a union performance bringing together artists who participated from June to November. This special evening, shaped by improvisation and shifting ground, explores movement and sound through experimental forms.

Initiated by Collectief Imprography, the lab supports spontaneous creation by providing a space for artists to experiment closer to the unknown. This series was inspired by the Marsh Marigold, a plant blooming in unstable conditions, symbolizing boundary-living and growth within shifting ground.

The finale’s theme, Perennation, reflects IMDL’s goal to endure unfavourable conditions and sustain renewal. These social encounters and insights will seed IMDL’s upcoming 2026 season.

This union performance is made possible thanks to the generous support of our crowdfunding donors, including AFK and Cultuurfonds, as well as our partner Voordekunst.

Lineup

Set I (17:00 – 18:00)

White Noise Strings & Miri Lee
Inspired by Robert Ryman’s subtle, minimalistic white-on-white paintings, The White Noise Strings treat silence as a canvas. The collective translates this into a silent universe where performers sparsely spread sounds in low dynamics, viewing silence as the ‘mother-composition’.

Performers: Raoul van der Weide (double bass), Miriam den Boer Salmon (violin), Mary Oliver (viola), Henk Zwerver (guitar), Lida Brouskari (piano, prepared piano), Wen Chin (cello), Miri Lee (dance).

Strange Winds

Bound by invisible strings, four idiosyncratic performers navigate the fragile balance of coexisting. Listening to subtle changes in vibrations, they renegotiate spaces and limits, altering the atmosphere, revealing layers of unseen pasts and cracking open new gaps for ephemeral meetings.

Performers: Izabela Pacewicz & Maria Mavridou (dance), Camille Sa (clarinet), Miriam den Boer Salmon (violin).

(Intermission)
